What is Fan Coil?

The fan coil unit is one of the terminal devices of an air conditioning system consisting of a small fan, an electric motor and a coil (air heat exchanger). When the chilled water or hot water flows through the coiled tube, it exchanges heat with the outside air, so that the air is cooled, dehumidified or heated to adjust the air parameters in the room.It is a common terminal device for cooling and heating.

Function of Fan Coil Units

(1) The fan coil should create an indoor air environment suitable for human comfort. Because the indoor air environment plays a very important role in the comfort of the human body, the indoor air environment required to create the comfort of the human body becomes the primary task of air conditioning work. If the indoor air temperature is required to be 24℃ and the relative humidity is 55%, the air conditioner should not only maintain the temperature base of 24℃and the humidity base of 55%, but also ensure the temperature precision of 11Y and *5 % humidity precision and high freshness and cleanliness.

(2) Fan coil units should meet the indoor air environment required by process production. Some processes require high temperature and humidity environment. Temperature and humidity conditions not only directly affect the normal production process, but also affect the output and quality of products. Such as textile production, precision instrument production and pharmaceutical production technology, etc.

(3) Fan coil units can eliminate harmful indoor gases and heat and humidity emitted centrally. Carbon dioxide in comfortable air-conditioned rooms, bad odor in bathrooms, toxic and odorous gases produced in the production workshop of process air-conditioning, as well as local parts which emit a large amount of heat and moisture, the fan coils need to be eliminated by the air conditioning and exhaust ventilation facilities, in order to obtain a good indoor air environment. 

Selection and Installation of Fan Coil Units

The fan coil should be selected according to the specific conditions of the room and the decoration requirements to determine the installation location and form. For example, the vertical unit is generally placed under the window sill of the outer wall, the wall-mounted unit is hung above the wall, the reliable wall of the column-type unit is placed on the ground or the partition wall and so on. Open-packed units are directly placed in the room and do not need to be decorated, but the unit with the appearance color and the room color should be selected. The concealed units should be equipped with air supply outlets and air return outlets which are in harmony with architectural decoration, and air outlet filters in the air return outlet. Removable or open repair openings should also be left for building decoration to facilitate the disassembly and repair of the fan and motor of the unit and the cleaning of the air heat exchanger.

At present, the horizontal installation units are mostly hidden on the roof. There are two ways of air supply: the upper side box air supply and the downward air supply.If side delivery mode is adopted, low static pressure fan-coil unit can be selected, and double-layer louver outlet is directly connected to the unit outlet. If roof downward air supply is adopted, high static pressure fan-coil unit should be selected, and a section of air duct can be connected to the unit outlet, and several diff-users can be connected to downward air supply. There are two ways of return air for horizontal concealed units: one is to install shutters or other forms of return air outlets and air outlet filters on the roof, the other is to connect the air ducts to the return air box of the units, and the other is to install no air ducts. The indoor air enters the roof and is inhaled by the units placed on the roof. In addition, when selecting fan coil units, attention should be paid to room noise control requirements.

Maintenance of Fan Coil Unit Water Connecting Plate

When the coil cooling and dehumidifying the air, the condensate water produced by the fan coil will drip into the dripping pan and be discharged through the drainage outlet. Because the air filters of fan coil units are generally coarse filters, some small dust will pass through the hole of the filter and adhere to the surface of the fan coil units. When condensate water forms on the surface of the fan coil units, these dust will be brought to the drip pan.

Therefore, the fan coil drip pan must be cleaned regularly, and the dust deposited in the drip pan must be cleaned. Otherwise, excessive deposited dust will reduce the capacity of air-conditioner drip pan. When condensate production is large, due to improper discharge, condensate overflows from the drip pan and damages the ceiling of the room. And it will block the drainage outlet, and condensate overflows will also occur. What's more, it will become the breeding of bacteria and even mosquitoes, which poses a threat to the health of the people in the room.

Fan coil water tray is usually cleaned twice a year, if it is seasonally used air conditioning. Clean it once after the end of the air conditioning season. The cleaning method is generally washed with water, and the sewage is discharged from the drainage pipe. In order to disinfect and sterilize the fan coil unit, it can also wash the clean water dish again with disinfectant water, such as bleaching water.

It is necessary to inspect fan coil units to ensure the effectiveness and service life of air conditioning. When the fan coil units are in trouble, it should be repaired in time. At the same time, attention should be paid to the precautions of the above units for repairing, so as to make the air conditioning have a better effect.
